PARIS – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto formally concluded his official state visit to the French Republic on Friday, 29 May 2026. Following a series of high-level diplomatic engagements laden with strategic significance, the Head of State and his entourage departed from Paris–Orly Airport en route to Jakarta, bringing home strengthened commitments and a shared vision for deeper bilateral cooperation.
The President’s departure was marked by a solemn and dignified farewell ceremony, conducted in strict accordance with state protocol. Upon arrival at the airfield, President Prabowo was honored by a ceremonial guard of honour comprising 21 service personnel, standing in rigid formation along both sides of the red carpet—a timeless symbol of the French Republic’s highest respect and esteem. Receiving the Head of State at the end of the red carpet were Eléonore Caroit, Minister Delegate for La Francophonie, International Partnerships, and French Citizens Abroad, alongside Military Governor of Paris, General Loïc Mizon. The atmosphere reflected profound respect, underscoring Indonesia’s standing as a valued and pivotal partner within the European landscape.
At the foot of the aircraft stairs, President Prabowo received a final send-off from senior officials representing both nations. Present to bid farewell were Fabien Penone, Ambassador of France to Indonesia; Mohamad Oemar, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to France; and Air Commodore Hendra Gunawan, Defence Attaché of Indonesia in Paris. Their presence reaffirmed that the bonds forged during this visit extend beyond official dialogue, embodying a deep-seated friendship between the two nations and their peoples.
Throughout his stay in Paris, President Prabowo undertook a comprehensive diplomatic agenda aimed at elevating and institutionalizing the bilateral relationship. The visit commenced with a grand state welcome ceremony steeped in historical tradition at Les Invalides, followed by an exclusive summit and in-depth strategic dialogue with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. This high-level meeting served as a pivotal platform for both leaders to align their perspectives, chart new directions for cooperation, and reaffirm mutual understanding on key regional and global challenges.
Beyond formal diplomacy, the warmth and maturity of the partnership were vividly demonstrated during the state banquet hosted by President Macron at the Salle des Fêtes of the Élysée Palace—an occasion that reinforced the trust and fraternity shared between the two heads of state. Amidst this rigorous schedule of official duties, President Prabowo also dedicated time to join members of the Indonesian community and diaspora in Paris for the congregational Eid al-Adha prayer. This act was more than a spiritual observance; it stood as a powerful affirmation of Indonesia’s cultural identity, national unity, and enduring presence on the international stage.
In its essence, this state visit serves as tangible proof of Indonesia’s steadfast commitment to upholding its independent and active foreign policy. It reaffirms the nation’s resolve to continually expand the scope of its strategic partnerships with friendly nations and key allies across Europe, while positioning Indonesia as a reliable force for peace, stability, and shared progress in the global arena.
